The journey of a lifetime
In 2007, I was introduced to Ayurvedia on a discussion board for Black women and how they were caring for their hair. Looking for remedies to solve my own hair thinning problems, the conversations centered around herbs that promised to make hair healthy and vibrant.
There were several Indian food stores in Dallas, Texas at the time, so I visited one. I asked the store owner about what I had learned, and he confirmed but added this, "it's such a long process, though. I now just use ready-made." I purchased every box of powdered herb they sold for hair care.
Experiments, research (and later formal training) led me to my first product in 2008, which I presented to the same hair board. Sales were immediate and, as they say, the rest is history.
AfroVeda was official and found homes in beauty supply stores across the US, France, UK, Netherlands, Virgin Islands, and Canada.
Since then, I have obtained numerous certifications, advancing my knowledge in Ayurveda, cosmetic formulation, trichology, biology, cosmetology, and skincare.
2026 marks 19 years. I was told back then that what I was doing was "unheard of", and that I was a "innovative disruptor". I know, and I am.
